The Permanente Federation’s Laura Fegraus Named “Up and Comer” by Modern Healthcare
OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Laura Fegraus, vice president of External Affairs, Communications and Brand for The Permanente Federation, Kaiser Permanente, has been honored as an “Up and Comer” by Modern Healthcare magazine. The annual awards program recognizes young executives age 40 or under who have made significant contributions in the areas of health care administration, management or policy.
The Permanente Federation is the organization that supports and connects the eight Permanente Medical Groups that provide care to over 12.2 million Kaiser Permanente members. Together, the more than 22,000 physicians of the Permanente Medical Groups comprise the largest consortium of private, multi-disciplinary physician-led practices in the country.
In service to The Permanente Federation and the Permanente Medical Groups, Fegraus successfully worked to unify the medical groups under a new public-facing “Permanente Medicine” brand, thereby creating a unified voice for Permanente physicians practicing medicine across eight states and the District of Columbia.
Stephen Parodi, MD, The Permanente Federation’s executive vice president of External Affairs, Communications, and Brand, said Fegraus’ work on the unified brand “elevates the importance of physician-led care delivery as a model for the American health care system.”
Fegraus also is the executive director of the Council of Accountable Physician Practices (CAPP), and serves as a director on the board of the AMGA Foundation. Through these positions, she focuses on delivery system reform and federal health care policy, and advocates for value-based health care in the United States.
Fegraus brings to her work a passion for improving health care. In public appearances, she often discusses her personal experience navigating an increasingly complex system, focused away from the needs of the patient and family. As a result, she is committed to improving the system so that it is safe, equitable, and patient-centered.
Previously, Fegraus served as senior director, public policy and external relations for The Permanente Federation. Prior to joining The Permanente Federation, she was special assistant to the deputy administrator and director of the Center for Medicare at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, where she assisted in the implementation of significant health reform-related changes to the Medicare program. She also served on the U.S. Senate Finance Committee health staff, where she participated in the drafting of the Medicare Advantage and Part D-related provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Fegraus holds a Master of Science degree in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drew University.
